Closing glass in a rotating part

The mounting of glass in a rotating part of a window or door is of great importance. This prevents overload on the hinges. Overload on the hinges causes windows or doors to hang, with the result that they jam or no longer close properly. By closing the glass in a rotating part, the weight of the glass is properly absorbed and transferred to the hinges.

In these videos we show you how to fix the glass in a window frame.

Wind up glass

First of all, make sure you have a clean workplace. Closing a glass in a window or door is done with the help of adjustment and support blocks. After the adjustment and support blocks have been placed, place the glass and seal the so-called heel seal at the bottom of your window or door. You do this up to a height of at least 200 millimeters. The heel seal prevents moisture from entering under the glazing bead. You can then place the glazing bars and seal the whole.

There are different types of windows with rotating parts. These all rotate in a different way and therefore open in different ways. Therefore, it is essential that the weight of the glass is correctly transferred to the hinges. At Toelevering Online we sell tilt and turn windows, side hung windows and top hung windows. The images below show you how to install the glass in each type of window.

Step-by-step plan for closing frames

1. Clean the rebate of the rotating part;
2. Place support blocks in the rotating part at the bottom of the side of the hinge;
3. Then place a support block diagonally opposite the support block that you placed at the bottom of the hinge;
4. Fix the glass in the rotating part using the adjusting blocks (as shown in the image below);
5. The weight of the glass is now correctly transferred to the hinges;
6. Seal the heel seal on the underside of the glass on the inside to a height of at least 200mm;
7. Place the glazing bars, first above and below and then the sides. Nail down the glazing bars;
8. Seal the window, both on the inside and outside.
